About SpineMatrix

SpineMatrix, Inc. was founded in 2003 to develop and commercialize a thoroughly researched, patented technology platform. The technology – Computerized Electrophysiological Reconstructed Spinal Regions (CERSR®) – determines the source of low back pain by measuring paraspinal neuromuscular activity and generating an easily interpreted image.

Back in the early 90s, physicians were performing thousands of examinations on patients with low back pain and growing increasingly frustrated by the limitations of available diagnostic procedures. Existing imaging technology was focused on anatomy and could not yield any information with regard to physiology of the paraspinal neuromuscular system. Not only were facet joint injections and discograms invasive and painful, but also unreliable and expensive.

With the assistance of Edison Biotech, an Ohio biotechnology incubator, CERSR was developed to overcome these challenges. Clinical studies involving more than 3,000 patients started in 1996. The Lumbar Matrix™ Scan is the result of those efforts.
